Job Hunting Via Internet

A lot of companies have taken their application process completely online. Unfortunately for you, that opens up the applicant pool to thousands more.

Here are some tips to stand out when applying online:

  • If there is a contact person for questions, make sure to send them a follow-up email after you apply so that they see your name in the list of applicants and their inbox
  • Using Monster, resubmit your resume to their pool often. Your resume gets bumped down the list everytime someone else submits one. Resubmitting keeps your resume from getting pushed to the bottom
  • Craigslist can be a very useful job searching tool because it usually gets you in contact with a person fast
  • Go directly to the companies homepage. Usually they have a Job Openings section
  • Consider the government. The largest employer in the US pays fairly well and has good job security. USAJobs has a great search by agency or skill

Nothing is going to get you a job faster than networking. Although the internet is great, job searching is still best accomplished by talking to a human.
