Keeping Your Info Available From Anywhere

How many times have you said to someone “Oh yeah, i have his address at home” or “Yeah I have it but its on my home computer”? Here are a few ideas for keeping all your information available to you even if you aren’t at home:

  • Email

Even if you aren’t a Blackberry/Treo owner, you can still access your email on most cell phones today. Gmail has there own mobile service that lets you log in using your phones browser. Just go to http://m.gmail.com on your cell phone’s browser to check your gmail. If you have another email address, then forward it to a Gmail address so you can check it on the go.

  • Home computer files

Set up remote access to your home computer using the free Tight VNC. Install the server on your home computer and the client on the remote computer and you can control your home computer from there. You can also try the Gmail drive to use Gmail like a hard drive that can be accessed anywhere.

  • Bookmarks

To save the link to that video of the rapping grandma, use Google Notebook. You can bookmark sites and log in to access them from any computer.

  • Internet

Opera has a browser specifically for cell phones that you might want to try out. It allows phones that are WAP only to access regular web sites.

  • Directions

Google does it again with maps for your phone. Download the program and find directions or nearby businesses, even view satellite images. Careful though, it can be rough on your wireless data plan.
