Everyone now knows how to take the perfect nap, but Thomas Edison had a nice trick he used to solve problems.
It’s called a one-second nap and it might be useful to solving problems. Edison would attempt to tap into his subconscious by falling asleep with a handful of ball bearings which meant as soon as he dosed off, his hand would let go of the ball bearings and of course wake up with the crash. He would wake up having been dreaming and it would offer a solution to a problem.
Supposedly the author of Treasure Island, got an idea for a book (not Treasure Island) using this method. So I guess if you are completely baffled with a situation, and you have a second and some ball bearings, what have you got to lose!
