A common solution to uncontrolled crying is to let the kid scream it out. Eventually they should give up and fall asleep. However, this study shows that in the first few weeks of a child’s life this approach only makes things worse.
The study showed that comforting very young babies on demand resulted in more than 50% less fussing. Of course as they get older and smart enough to make you drop everything whenever they want, you may want to rethink your strategy. Or you could just spend the rest of your days with your child sleeping in your room.
