A judge in New york just ruled that you cannot fire an employee for surfing the internet as long as it doesn’t interfere with overall work performance. Apparently Mayor Bloomberg caught a guy playing Solitaire on his computer and fired him. They also found out that he had visited several news websites. The judge said that surfing the internet is how we get news so it is equivalent to making personal calls or reading the newspaper.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, you can simply cite this case. However, if the mayor of one of the largest cities in the world is in the vicinity, you might want to click over to an Excel file for a bit.
